Our Office

Please allow me to introduce myself.

I love what I do and often at the end of a long work day I reflect back on the results of the days labor and think, this is great!

I have been so blessed, many of my loyal patients who I worked with at the group practice in Santa Cruz have followed me, and the Scotts Valley community has been so welcoming. It has been my goal to provide my patients with the finest dental care I can provide, while listening to their concerns and desires. I wish to help people understand as much as possible about their oral health, and educate them about what they can do to keep their smile it's best.

Dental care involves a lot of personal choice, and often there is more than one way to treat an oral condition or problem. I would like to be a partner with my patients and a guide for them to achieve their own optimal oral health. This means a commitment to personalized care, and the belief that the dentist and the patient together should be responsible for their oral health. I also use the Golden Rule in my relations with my patients.

My office provides a wide range of dental services for the whole family. Children and seniors are especially welcome. I have more than 20 years of experience performing such services as tooth colored fillings, crowns and bridges, full and partial dentures, root canal treatments, gum therapy, dental implant restorations , mini implants and oral surgery such as tooth removal.

Of course, I enjoy cosmetic dentistry such as bleaching and veneers, like  every other dentist in this area does. Every one wants to be known as a cosmetic dentist these days.

I received my DDS from the University of California, at San Francisco in 1988 ,  then joined the Army where I served for 6 years as a dental officer.  I served mostly  in Mannheim Germany but gained valuable experience providing emergency and surgical care for solders while they trained and readied for deployment. Upon returning to California, I served at Fort Ord.

After leaving the service I became a partner in a dental group in Santa Cruz, until I decided to open my own office in 1999. I have lived in Scotts valley for 16 years and I love it here. My wife is a Registered Nurse, and my daughter is attending San Jose State. My son attends Scotts Valley High School.

My office staff share my philosophy of patient care and education. Other personality traits they share are genuine kindness, and a commitment to service. My professional life has been made easier since these ladies became members of the team.

My receptionist Robyn answers questions about appointments, finances as well as researching and helping patients understand the myriad conditions, limitations and traps that are common to modern dental insurance plans. Melissa, my Registered Dental Assistant, facilitates the treatment, assures a clean environment, and even performs some of the lab work. My  three experienced Registered Dental Hygienists Dorothy, Jan, and Sandy are often praised for their "light touch'" as well as their thoroughness in scaling and polishing the patient's teeth. They are committed to clear communication with the patient and dentist regarding their oral condition, and offering oral hygiene instruction.

Although we accept most dental insurance plans we advise patents not to let insurance plans determine their oral care. People should remember that preventive dental care is inexpensive, while repairing or replacing damaged teeth is not. It is a mistake to forgo routine preventive exams and dental cleanings because you might not have dental coverage. I believe that the patient is part of the dental team. I want you to be involved. Ask questions, discuss treatment options, learn more about what you can do to keep your mouth and teeth their healthiest.

I am a adjunct clinical instructor for the Cabrillo College Dental Hygiene Program.  I also have been a volunteer instructor for the dental assisting training program though the Santa Cruz County Regional Occupational Program since 1994. I have  participated in dental health screenings at local schools by members of the Monterey bay Dental Society. I am a member of the Scotts Valley Kiwanis. This local service club has been very active over the years, it's members raising monies for local causes and charities, while its service projects are as varied as planting trees, high way cleanup, and sponsoring very popular Scotts Valley events, such as Rock at Skypark, and the Mountain Charlie bike race.

I am a member of the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, as well as the American, California, and Monterey Bay Dental Societies. Additially, I am a member of the Acadamy of General Dentistry, of the Acadamy of Osseointegration, and I am a certified CEREC CAD-CAM Provider . I have advanced training in the placement of Lumineers and the MDI mini implant system. My hobbies include Skiing, jogging, beer making and astronomy.

My office is located at 221 H Mount Hermon Road Scotts Valley, and the phone number is (831) 440-1830. We offer appointments Monday through Friday.
